Life Drawing (5): Blue tape is my real life Ctrl-Z.
Last night was the 5th life drawing session I went to. I start feeling more comfortable and know my weak points: hands / face / feet. I also have a tendency to hesitate, erase and go too shy on contrasts, so I've decided this time to create a very simple light sketch with a black pencil and then work straight with a pen. No allowance for mistake until... the mistake. A downsized pig face for the lady... Thankfully, some blue tape hanging around gave me a second chance...

It's flying Baby!
Ok, it's been a while since I posted... Busy times and many things up in the air at LM, the first of them being the Rally Fighter. I'll get back to sketching as soon as possible, I need it, but meanwhile, I wanted to share this shot...

Back to Business
It's been a while without any update. Busy period.
Local Motors has just moved from Massachusetts to Arizona. From wet to dry, curved roads to straight avenues, rain to sun, green tree to cactus. New environment, new challenges, but always the same motivation. Even more motivation.
I am also back from a 2 week vacation in Cape Town (South Africa) where I've seen some of the most incredible places in my life. I am now with lots of colors and freshness in my mind and I can't wait to take up the upcoming challenges.

Worlds of Art
A photo to begin this new year. Two worlds facing each other.
On the left "Oscar", representing the Western Culture, based on the idea of perfect proportions. The obsession for the Golden ratio or the Vitruvian Man are both representative examples of centuries of research in Art and Mathematics (which were almost the same discipline till the Industrial Revolution).
On the right, the sculpture of a Gazelle coming from the Republic of Chad. Apart from the fact it represents a page of my family's history, I love it. No Golden Ratio here, but I assume centuries (even more) of handing down unique know-how and Tradition. The Ethnographic Art (from Africa, Pre-Columbian America or Oceania) are rich of an History, textures, shapes and Colors that remain an important source of inspiration for me.
In addition, I would like to use the opportunity of this post to highlight a friend, Jonathan Kasumba who works on promoting design in Africa and developing an African automotive identity through his Association called AADA. I wish him the best for this New Year.
